Well it looks as if Thomas Partey is set to stay at the Wanda Metropolitano instead of going to Arsenal. Who can blame him? As soon as he signs the new contract, then he’ll see his wages double to £135,000 per week.
He has a release clause in his current Atletico contract which will run out in 2023. That’s worth between £42million and £45m. But in a new deal, he would see his release clause go up to a bonkers £87.2m.
Though Arsenal’s Mike Arteta had his fingers crossed for the midfielder, it was all for nought. Originally, the Ghanian wanted to move to Arsenal as quickly as possible…but then changed his mind at the last moment. Cash is still king!
Arsenal were really trying hard to raise the cash for Partey’s transfer. It’ll e a tough pill to swallow as they have had a pretty horrible season so far. Probably Arsenal will not even see any European football before the season’s end. Of course, not seeing any Euro action is going to be a hit on their finances. Presently Arsenal are sitting 9th in the Premier League with just 3 matches remaining.
