ELCHE CF CLUB HISTORY
Elche Club de Fútbol, S.A.D. is based in the Valencian town of Elx in the province of Alacante. The club was founded by a merging of all the town’s teams in 1923. It’s first league season, in the Tecera Division was from 1929 to 1934. At this pint they moved up to Segunda. Since then they have yo-yoed between 2nd and 3rd divisions, with they’re first foray into La Liga in 1959/60 season. They remained in the first division until 1977/78. Since then, they have entered the La Liga on 4 occasions: 1984/5, 1988/89, 2013/14 to 2014/15 and now finally once agin for this 2020/21 season.
Elche CF have the unfortunate title of being the first, and so far, only club ever to be demoted thanks o tax problems. In 2014/15, they fell under the Spanish Football Leagues regulations with regards to excess debt and financial mismanagement.

The amount of silverware in their trophy cabinet is nothing to write home about.

We would go with Nino (Juan Francisco Martínez Modesto) who plays as a striker. Born in 1980,he has played a tota of 571 matches and 194 goals, mainly with Elche. He has also played for Levante, Tenerife and Osasuna. He joined Elche at the very beginning of his career in 2005/6 season, and only played for them for that season before moving on to Levante. Finally returning to the fold in 2016/7 and is still playing there today. in 2008 he won the Pichichi Trophy which is the sports newspaper, “Marca” award for the top goal scorer in each league for that season. Then in 2009 he also won the Zarra Trophy, again from Marcha.

Even though they were well clear of being relegated from La Liga, in the end they went down thaks to breaking the Football leagues rules on financing.
Passing from Segundo they were relegated down to third division after being defeated by Cadiz.
Here they managed to finish directly in the middle, placed 11th out of the 22 other teams.
By beating Girona 1-0 on aggrigate, Elche finally saw themsevles enter La Liga once again.
